School Tours

|

Rock Bridge Animal Hospital is proud to participate in educational
efforts with local preschools and day cares, like our neighbor Apple School. We host annual tours of
our facilities and offer children a unique opportunity to see what a
veterinarian does for their dogs and cats. | |
|
Groups have a chance to see our doctor perform a pretend exam on Fluffy, our stuffed dog. They learn what the doctor is looking at and for during exams. Children have a chance to use a stethoscope to listen to a heartbeat. We discuss the importance of keeping toys and strings picked up at home so that pets do not eat them. |

We teach them about common parasites such as fleas, roundworms, whipworms, heartworms, hookworms. Specimen jars and slides are displayed to show the children what these little pests look like in real life. They even get to learn about radiographs, or x-rays.

Fluffy has swallowed something! Our favorite part of a tour is showing the students how a surgery would be performed. We help them to don some surgery preparation apparel (face masks and head cover caps) before they go into surgery with the doctor. The children are getting a chance to help remove little items from Fluffy's pretend stomach.
